Marques de Griñon Alea is a full-bodied and very well-balanced Spanish red wine. Alea has an intense ruby-red color and strong flavor, with predominant hints of vanilla that bear witness to its long aging.
Once the fermentation has come to an end, the wine is kept in contact with the grape skin in order to be given the structure and tannins needed so that they change during the wine's aging for at least the next fifteen months, until the wine reaches its full-bodied flavor, in a new American oak barrel.
Carlos Falcó Fernandez de Córdova, Marquis of Griñon, has pioneered the modernization of vine growing and winemaking in Spain. In 1974, he introduced Spain to the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grape varieties. This was but the first step in a series of daring pioneering innovations by the man responsible for the great wines of Marques de Griñon.
The winery is housed in a historic 18th-century building in the Rioja region of Spain. In its deep cellars, which were completely renovated in 1989, they use modern installations equipped with air conditioning and humidity control. This allows them to make the wine and age it at a controlled temperature.
