Columbia Restaurant Again Earns “Best of Award of Excellence” from Wine Spectator
07/11/2012

TAMPA, Fla., July 11, 2012 - - The Columbia Restaurant in Tampa’s Historic Ybor City has again earned the “Best of Award of Excellence” distinction for an outstanding collection of Spanish wines from Wine Spectator magazine for the ninth year in a row.

To be considered for this recognition, a restaurant’s wine list must contain 400 or more wines from top vineyards in several regions, along with vertical offerings from major regions.
Every year since 1981, Wine Spectator magazine acknowledges restaurants that show passion and commitment when it comes to wine.

The Columbia’s 200+ pages wine list now contains more than 1,056 wines with an inventory exceeding 50,000 bottles, and can be seen here.

The wine list of the Columbia has also been recognized by many of Spain’s leading winemakers, including Miguel Torres Sr. of Torres and Pablo Álvarez of Vega Sicilia as having
the world’s best collection in the world of wines from Spain, and the most complete.
The collection also contains a large selection of verticals from some of California’s leading family-owned wineries.

A wine cellar seen from the Don Quixote dining room, Tampa''s first air-conditioned dining room that was built in 1935, holds over 15,000 bottles of wine -- showcasing some of this extensive wine collection.

The Columbia Restaurant in Tampa’s Historic Ybor City was founded in 1905 and is Florida’s oldest restaurant. Additional locations include St. Armands Circle in Sarasota, the Historic District in St. Augustine, The Pier in Downtown St. Petersburg, Sand Key on Clearwater Beach, Central Florida''s town of Celebration, the Columbia Café on the Riverwalk in Tampa and the Columbia Restaurant Café at Tampa International Airport. All Columbia locations are owned and operated by 4th and 5th generation members of the founding family; except for Columbia Restaurant Cafe at Tampa International Airport which is operated in partnership with HMSHost.
