Columbia Restaurant Named to the “Golden Spoon Hall of Fame” by Florida Trend Magazine Consistently Named “One of the Top 25 Restaurants in Florida”
TAMPA, Fla., January 19, 2006 – The Columbia Restaurant in Tampa’s Historic Ybor City was named to the Golden Spoon “Hall of Fame” – the industry’s highest regional award. This recognition is given to Florida restaurants that are named Golden Spoon winners consecutively over a period of time. The Golden Spoon award recognizes individual achievement and distinctive contributions at an established eatery. Columbia has been named “One of Florida’s Top Restaurants” every year since 1967, the year the magazine created the award.
Florida Trend states “The Columbia restaurant has a fifth generation waiting and working in the wings, as the extended Gonzmart clan happily celebrated the restaurant’s centennial anniversary in 2005. Florida’s oldest restaurant has obviously been doing more than a few things right the past 100 years to soar to the summit of Golden Spoon achievement.”
“To be named to the Golden Spoon “Hall of Fame” during our 100th Anniversary is a testimony to the legacy of the Columbia, we are honored and extremely proud of what I consider the premier award given to restaurants in Florida,” said Richard Gonzmart, President of the Columbia Restaurant and fourth generation member of the founding family. Long time menu favorites include the Columbia''s Original "1905" Salad, Snapper "Alicante," Arroz con Pollo and Paella, the national dish of Spain.
The Columbia Restaurant of Tampa’s Historic Ybor City was founded in 1905 and is the oldest restaurant in Florida, and the largest Spanish restaurant in the world.
Locations include the flagship restaurant in Tampa''s Historic Ybor City, St. Armands Circle in Sarasota, the Historic District in St. Augustine, The Pier in St. Petersburg, Sand Key on Clearwater Beach and in Central Florida''s town of Celebration. All Columbia Restaurants are owned and operated by 4th and 5th generation members of the founding family.
