Flamenco Dance Complements the Cuisine of The Columbia Restaurant

TAMPA, Fla., - - In addition to award-winning Spanish/Cuban cuisine, the original Columbia Restaurant in Tampa’s Ybor City offers a captivating performance by The Columbia Restaurant Dance Troupe, led by Artistic Director, Maria Sevilla. This group of talented dancers performs every night except Sunday. All shows are performed at the Ybor City location on 21st Street and 7th Avenue.

The flamenco, one of Spain’s traditional dances consisting of rhythmic dance steps performed on a hard wood floor, originated with the Spanish Gypsies and has evolved through the years to the more structured form we have become familiar with. The classical Spanish dances consist of ballet moves in colorful Spanish costumes accompanied by the sound of castanets.

The music, the costumes, and the passion of the dancers transport the audience to another part of the world, but the performers are all from the Tampa Bay area. The Columbia Restaurant Dance Troupe brings the culture and dance traditions of Spain to Ybor City as a complement to the internationally acclaimed Spanish cuisine of the Columbia Restaurant. They have been performing at Columbia Restaurant since 1985. There is a $6 cover charge per person for the show.

The Columbia Restaurant was founded in 1905 and is Florida’s oldest restaurant. Locations include Ybor City in Tampa, St. Armands Circle in Sarasota, the Historic District in St. Augustine The Pier in St. Petersburg, Sand Key on Clearwater Beach, Central Florida''s Town of Celebration and the Columbia Cafe at the Tampa Bay History Center, Channelside. All Columbia Restaurants are owned and operated by 4th & 5th generation members of the founding family.
