Richard’s Father’s Day Family Walk/Jog Donates $100,000
For Moffitt Cancer Center

TAMPA, Fla., June 21, 2017 – The Gonzmart Family Foundation will donate $100,000 to Moffitt Cancer Center as a result of Richard’s Father’s Day Family Walk and Jog.

The money is earmarked for the Advanced Prostate Cancer Collaboration at Moffitt. The Foundation paid all of the expenses from the June 18, 2017 event.

“Our event drew a record 550 people this year,” said Richard Gonzmart, 4th generation family member and president of the Columbia Restaurant Group. “We want to thank all the walkers, joggers, volunteers and sponsors who joined us on June 18 in our quest to raise awareness that screening for prostate cancer equals life. Step by step, we’ll find a cure for cancer.”

The event began and ended at Gonzmart’s restaurant Ulele on the Tampa Riverwalk.

Next year’s event again is set for Father’s Day: June 17, 2018

According to the American Cancer Society, one man out of six will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, and one of 35 will die every year. Prostate cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer deaths in American men, second only to lung cancer.
